FAQ – Blood test

Can I eat or drink before the blood test?

We advise not to eat before blood tests. Drinking still water helps to enhance the blood veins’ flexibility, hence makes the blood test easier.

How long does it take to get the results?

Usually the results are ready within 24 – 48 hours, however there are special tests that require more time, please consult our staff for details.

How long does the insulin resistance test take?

The testing takes 2 hours, blood samples are taken at the beginning, after 1 hour and after 2 hours. The sugar solution that you have to drink once will be prepared by our staff. After this, you must not eat nor drink. You should avoid consuming sweet food or drinks on the days preceding the test.

I am pregnant and in the first trimester. What blood tests do I need to do?

The laboratory tests during the first semester are the most diverse, and include testing of the following: ions, liver and kidney function, a full blood count, thyroid gland function, toxoplasmosis, cytomegalovirus, Hepatitis B, lues serology, blood type and antibody screening, full urinanalysis (first morning sample, midstream specimen of urine).

I am pregnant and in the 24th – 28th week, what do I have to do before the glucose tolerance test?

We expect you at the clinic to do the test, please come with an empty stomach. You will have to take in a sugar solution prepare by our staff, following which you must not eat or drink for 2 hours. After 120 minutes, a second blood sample will be taken. You also have to bring first morning and midstream urine samples, taken after having washed yourself.

I will have a planned caesarian section, do I need to do a blood test before?

Yes, you will need to do a blood type and antibody screening one week before the date of the caesarian section.

My doctor ordered me to do a hormone test, what should I do?

Testing for hormones is done by taking two blood samples, one on days 3-5 of menstruation, and another one on days 21-23 of menstruation. You can choose any day during these intervals. We advise you to call us on the first day of your menstruation, in order to make an appointment for the day 3-5 blood test. In certain cases, your specialist also asks for an insulin resistance test, for details please see above. After the blood test, you can make an appointment for the day 21-23 testing at the reception. After receiving the results of both blood tests, these will be analysed by the doctor and you will be notified.

How do I get the results?

We will send you the results by e-mail, if necessary you will also be notified by the doctor on the phone.

Can my child who is younger than 14 do a blood test at your clinic ?

At our clinic, we only do blood tests for patients who are older than 14.

I usually go to another clinic, do I have to bring any files with me?

In case you are not a regular patient of our clinic, we kindly ask you to bring the blood testing request issued by your doctor, in order to assist our staff in their work.
