Radiological examinations –
abdominal- neck- thyroid ultrasound

At Villa Medicina, as part of our radiology service, we mostly perform ultrasound examinations, which purpose is to create a 3-dimensional image of the selected organ using sound waves. The size and structure of the given organ can be determined by the image obtained during the ultrasound examination, and possible inflammations, nodular lesions, and cysts can also be observed.

During an ultrasound examination of the thyroid gland, the size, structure, shape and minor changes of the thyroid gland can be determined. The examination is often carried out on the recommendation of an internal medicine or endocrinologist, if a change is noticed around the neck during palpation, or a pathological change appears based on other symptoms (e.g. medical history). In such cases, in addition to the two lobes of the thyroid gland and the parathyroid gland, it is also important to examine the soft tissues of the neck, the large salivary glands and the neck lymph nodes.

During the ultrasound examination of the cervical soft tissue of the neck, our radiologist examines the neck, submandibular and parotid glands, possible subcutaneous nodules, lesions and the structure of the muscles in order to recognize and treat various inflammations and benign and malignant tumors in a timely manner. Examination of the cervical soft tissue of the neck is most often recommended in case of swallowing complaints, difficulty breathing, prolonged cough, as well as previously diagnosed cancer or as a control examination after surgery.

During an abdominal ultrasound, the abdominal and pelvic organs are examined, as a result of which abnormalities of the liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, gall bladder, uterus, ovaries and prostate (gallstones, kidney stones), size anomalies, cysts and tumors can be shown.

Abdominal ultrasound examination is recommended for many complaints:
