Why is genetic screening important during pregnancy?

Pregnancy is one of the most wonderful and most important periods of life. During the preparation for the arrival of new life, not only the physical health of Mother and Baby preservation, but also the examination of the genetic integrity of the Baby is key. With the help of genetic screenings, certain genetic abnormalities can be recognized in time, based on which information parents and doctors can make more informed decisions regarding the further course of the pregnancy.

The importance of genetic screenings

The basic purpose of genetic screenings is to filter out possible differences in the genetic stock of the fetus. Among these, the most common are chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome (trisomy 21), Edwards syndrome (18- as trisomy) or Patau syndrome (trisomy 13). In addition, they can detect many rarer genetic disorders that can affect the quality of life and development of the Baby.

Thanks to today's modern technologies, genetic screening has become a risk-free, quick and accurate procedure. The non-invasive prenatal tests (NIPT) carried out from maternal blood give us the opportunity to get a comprehensive picture of the fetus already in the early stages of pregnancy about your genetic status.
